Yoga

Sunflower Bodyworks teaches Yoga in the Kripalu tradition. Kripalu Yoga focuses on listening to and respecting the body's messages through the development of nonjudgmental state of awareness. It invites a gentle and compassionate relationship with one's self and the world. And then teaches you to take compassion for self and others off the mat and into your daily life. Through your practice, you will discover a new level of physical, energetic, emotional and spiritual consciousness, all the while building strength, flexibility and improved range of motion.

At Sunflower, we are all certified and registered yoga teachers through Yoga Alliance.

Group Yoga Classes

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga offers warm-ups, gentle postures that progress slowly, and yogic breathing. Gentle Yoga will increase mobility and reduce the effects of stress. Gentle Yoga is for students who prefer a less vigorous class and for those experiencing or recovering from illness, injury or chronic pain. All poses will be carefully modified for each student’s needs and abilities.

Level I/II Mixed Yoga

Level I/II is moderately paced, suitable for advanced beginners and intermediate Yogis. We will explore standing, sitting, reclining poses and twists to strengthen, stretch, lengthen the spine, create space in the joints, deepen awareness of the breath, and quiet the mind. We will experience flowing sequences (such as Sun Salutations), and using breath to increase the connection between body, mind, and spirit. Instruction, adjustments and refinements are built into each class to increase understanding and connecting postures and breath.

Gentle Adaptive Yoga

This slower-paced class guides students through introductory standing, seated and floor postures. Extra time is spent on positions and using props to ensure a safe and peaceful approach to Yoga. Poses are adapted to meet the needs of individual students, so everyone can practice in a supportive environment. This class is for individuals living with impaired mobility or balance. Other individuals who feel they may be limited from participating in a traditional yoga class are also welcome in this class.
